"Hello Rob and Harrison : A week ago I purchased the CS20 Classical Guitar from you. Now that I have really had a chance to play it ... I am very happy with the tone, size and the convenience of a pickup, tuner and eq. all rolled into one. It doesn't look bad either ... it has a place now in my living room. I highly recommend your site to anyone looking for quality and good value. Thank you."
-- M Rowe, Hamilton, Ontario (Purchased CS-20 Classical Electric)
"I am an experienced player and own more guitars than my wife would prefer. Among them, I have both a Strat and Tele. Neither is American, but I must say at the outset I have never felt that where a guitar is built, makes a difference. The differences lie in the components, not the manufacturing location. And, with modern manufacturing techniques, there is hardly a difference in quality anymore, and certainly not of the scale decades ago when there was a huge difference between “cheap” guitars and a working musician’s guitar such as the Telecaster. So let me begin with the components of the TL-1, i.e. the most important piece - the pickups. I didn’t expect this guitar would have the Texas Special sound that I prefer, right out of the box. It doesn’t. It does have a decent sound, just not one that I specifically want out of this guitar. So I will be changing the pickups. Not because I need to, but because I want a particular sound.
Now, as for the sound “right out of the box”- I took this guitar and played live without doing a thing except tune the strings. I play mostly blues and use a Fender Cyber Deluxe. The tone is bright and cuts thru nicely as does my other Telecaster. It doesn’t have the same “bark”, but again I didn’t expect that it would. It is what it is, and whether it suits you is up to you. You don’t need to change the pickups. But if you’re like me, and looking for a particular sound, you’ll want to. I think its fair to mention that other players complimented the sound of the guitar as it exists. Of course, that’s a variable and dependent upon my skills as a player, and the amp itself. As for the quality, “fahget abboudit” as they say in NYC. This absolutely confirms my contention about modern manufacturing. If you want to spend more, you certainly can. I’m actually flabbergasted at how much Fender USA Tele’s sell for. It’s a plank with a neck stuck on it for goodness sake, and the development costs were paid a long, long time ago. Again to be fair, Fender does sell a model priced in the range of this TL-1. But it does NOT have strings thru the body – a key characteristic for a Tele I think.
I’m very happy with this purchase. It’s short money for a very well made guitar. Although I already had a Tele, it does not have a maple neck. I was looking at buying a second Tele with a maple neck when I found this. The only non-positive remark I can make about this guitar is that one of the screws on the control plate was not fully screwed in.That’s it! One turn of screwdriver corrected this. Again, this is a five star guitar for short money. You can certainly spend more if you want, but you absolutely don’t need to. This may even become my main guitar just to emphasize that point to some of my “snooty” friends.
Let me also extend kudos to the importer, Fret City. This guitar is exactly the guitar they say it is. If you call, speak to Harrison, and tell him you read this review. I haven’t met him personally, but I really think he is onto something in importing this guitar and other business ventures. 5 stars!

"Hi Rob, I received the guitar today. Its a very nice guitar and good value. I love the neck and the body spec is right on. I'm pleasantly surprised by the hardware. Excellent for a guitar in this price range. I'll likely change the pickups at some point but was able to dial in some pretty nice sounds playing with the volume and tone controls on the guitar and adjusting my tube amp. Your service is excellent. I will be watching your site on a regular basis "

"Hi guys....when I got my RM4 bass a while back I was immediately impressed. The photos don't do this bass justice. The grain of the mahogany body is gorgeous to look at and touch, also the fretwork is flawless. I bought this to use solely at church (it's a classy bass) thinking that I would leave my main bass of 10 years for use at home and with my gospel group. Well last Sunday I took the JD to an outdoor gig and was so pleased with how it felt as a stand-up live bass. "

"Hi! I received my JD-TL Electric Guitar on Friday just 2 days after ordering it. At first I was a little worried because the box it was shipped in had a few dents and holes in it but after opening it and thoroughly inspecting the guitar, everything was perfect. I am thoroughly pleased with the guitar. Every aspect, look, sound, finish and setup is great. I would like to order some strings for it and need to know which ones it came with. Thanks for the terrific service and will certainly be doing business with Fret City Music soon. Cheers!"

"Hi I recieved my SG style guitar yesterday. I have been playing for 30 some years and have owned Gibson SGs and Guild S-100s etc. I have to say I am very pleased with the quality and playability of this product.I thought I was getting a good "practice" instrument but I have a very gig worthy guitar here. I can't believe I paid so little and got so much. I am pleased that in todays market you can still find quality service and value. I look forward to aquiring more fine guitars from Fret City in the future. Thanks again"
-- Don Stolz, North Bay, Ontario (Purchased GG1-S Electric)
"I bought a EG3 (strat style) guitar as a Christmas gift for son. We were pleasantly surprised with the overall quality. With these instruments quality is in the details. There are many out there that look the same... They are not all created equal. I just had to give it a going over. Fit and finish is excellent. The action is fast and smooth absolutely no rough edges. Pickups are clean and crisp (very low noise on high gain). It doesn't get much better even on higher end guitars. My son will have a lasting enjoyment. I will highly recommend to anyone looking for a guitar to check out Fretcity.com. Thanks for going the extra mile. Thankyou... Michael Rowe, Hamilton, Ontario"

"Hey Harrison, Just wanted to let you know I'm blown away with the two thinlines I purchased from you.The quality of the guitars was far beyond what I was expecting. They arrived on time and in great condition, requiring only a quick tuning.I'm very pleased with your service and the fact that you took the time late in your evening to phone me personally to confirm my order. I will highly recommend Fretcity to all of our friends and family. Thanks again."

" Hi Rob, the guitar is great .. My son loves it. Thanks for getting it off to us so fast. Regards, Claude" -- Claude W., Kanata, Ontario. (Purchased JD-TL-Lefty)
" Greetings Rob and Harrison! Sorry this has taken me this long to send. OK, so here's my verdict - my new guitar is absolutely incredible! I mean that. This is from a guy who has been on a 2 year quest for the tone I heard in my head, and went through several more expensive guitars in the process! First off let me say I didn't think I'd be the type to write something like this. Every time I read a review that's especially flowery, I always think it's a guy on the company payroll posing as a customer. So here are the details. I came across www.fretcity.com while on another site. Instant skepticism. Skepticism for the product, for the service, for the company. Being one of the only Canadian companies offering guitars online at this time, I was happy to discover that when I phoned the company up, a real person actually answered, was courteous, and even knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the product. Good start! See, we Canadians shouldn't overlook geography when we purchase stuff. Besides all the patriotic stuff, not having to pay duty for an over-the-border purchase, not having to wait an indeterminable amount of time are things I have come to value. Canadian distributors should be more attractive to Canadian purchasers in most scenarios really. Anyway, I took a chance and ordered the guitar I wanted. About 2 seconds after the purchase, I received an invoice via email. Reassuring! Delivery time was exactly what they said it would be (in my case 3 business days), and no extra surprise fees! Wow! 5 stars for the transaction. OK onto the guitar. Upon opening the box (I didn't order a case, but the box was sufficient, evidenced by the fact that besides no dings, the guitar was still IN TUNE coming out of the box), I was immediately impressed with the finish. I wasn't expecting anything here and for me as a player, finish has never been something important per se, but it looked great. Easily comparable to many guitars out there costing several times as much. Playing the guitar for the first time, I immediately fell in love with the neck. No flaws in the wood and the neck joint was perfect. I was further impressed to find out that the guitar stays in tune when played! I was expecting I'd have to change the tuners - this is great. I then plugged the guitar in to my Fender tube amp, and again was totally impressed. I will say now that a/b'd back to back with a set of custom wound Lindy Fralin pickups. There is a difference. More low end and slightly louder volume with the Fralins, however I've quickly grown to prefer the sound of these pickups and am convinced they are a great match up for the scale of the neck, and the guitar in general. Just like with the tuners, I was fully expecting I would be changing the pickups, but I'm actually thrilled with the sound of these and wouldn't change them now even if someone payed me to. For real. Having said that, I must note that my preference is more of a clear 'vintage' or 'authentic' sound. For instance, I much prefer the sound of an old Gibson or Fender pickup to an active EMG. It's my preference. Someone who plays metal might find more merit in the latter. In a nutshell, I love the guitar just the way it is. So at this point you may be wondering - are there ANY cons?? Well, depending on how you look at it, yes. The nut was a little high out of the box, so chording at the bottom of the neck was off a bit. Having bought a few brand new well-known name brand guitars in my time, I have found this to be a normal practice with most companies. Not sure why, but this I actually expected. I took the guitar in to get it set up by an excellent Luther here in town, and now it's my number 1 guitar. (Incidentally I noticed that if you go to the Fret City site, they provide a fairly comprehensive set of guitar set up instructions in their downloadable guitar manual for the do-it-yourselvers.... another point earned for their customer relations approach.) If I were to summarize my experience, Fret City is a small upcoming company who is reputable and enthusiastic about their product, and for good reason. Just the kind of company you want to deal with. The guitar I bought is a gem. A fantastic guitar at any price. My only question is when are the prices going up on these guitars???"
-- Brad Smith, Kingston. (Purchased JM-30 Electric)
"I just wanted to drop a line and say thanks. I was searching for my first acoustic when I came across your site. The pricing was just as great as the information you provide on the product. The music sample... brilliant! The product itself arrived well packaged with a great pick (thanks, I keep losing them). The letter inside the box explaining tuning, care etc was simply the icing on the cake. Not only did I get a great unit, with an amazing price, but the delivery process was equally as outstanding. I'll let Rob fill you in. I just wish I needed more stuff so I can go online and buy it from you, rest assured if anyone asks me, I will be sure and tell them about you, and go so far as emailing them your url. Thank you once again for the best customer service experience I've had in a long time. A customer forever David"
-- David M. , Port Credit. (Purchased DG-2 Acoustic)
"My potted LC-4 arrived this morning (as I write this, it is late evening), and I've had great fun with it. It looks and sounds spectacular, and while there were initial problems with the intonation, it seems to have been more or less fixed with nothing more than a screwdriver and a couple minutes. The price was excellent, the customer service was excellent, and the guitar itself sounds just as good spouting screaming Zeppelin and Black Sabbath tracks as it does playing slower, Robert-Johnson-style blues, as it does playing melodic Metallica and King Crimson instrumentals. It works with both lead and rhythm of any genre and band I've tried so far, and is a joy to improvise on. I will definitely be recommending FretCity to my friends in the future regardless of what genre they play, and am, in a very big way, positively impressed. The sound is great, the service is great, the guitar's appearance is breathtaking, and considering the above factors, the price is nothing short of spectacular. $423.75 is not a lot for a quality instrument, and the excellent service.

"Just received my guitar today - it came on time but I was away. In a word - wow. I once owned an Epi Black Beauty and it does not compare. This guitar has a great finish to the fret edges, the binding and the rest of the look. It plays like a dream. It screams with distortion and drips honey on a clean setting. I teach guitar and I will recommend any Fret City guitar to my students. Question - what was it strung with? Feels like I am playing silk. Now, what is that new Green Tele like? And......have a name for a good divorce lawyer?" -- Kevin, Toronto. (Purchased JD-LCB Electric)
"Hello Rob. I used my J&D Tele at a soft seater venue last Sat with the country band I'm in and it sounded great. There were about 500 people in attendance and I got a lot of complements on my guitar sound. I can't get over the quality of this axe for the price. Just awesome. Take care.

"The telecaster arrived today. I am enjoying it although I have to get used to single coil pickups again. The action is really crisp and I am liking the maple neck. You were right, it is a beautiful guitar. Anyway, I am glad that I ordered this one and I know that I will love it for years to come."
-- Chris, Windsor. (Purchased Candy Apple JD-TL Left hand)
"The J&D Bros. SG is great. Low action and very easy to play.
The potted pickups make a difference and noise levels are very low. Very nice sustain too. I simply can't believe that you can sell this good a guitar for these incredible prices. Thanks Fret City for this great addition to my collection. Best regards."

"A few months ago I purchased the LS3 Electric guitar (Cherry Sunburst), for my son. The quality of the guitar and the sound are simply amazing. I looked around and found I would have had to pay another $200.00 or more, to get a guitar of comparable quality. The staff at Fret City, have been very helpful and have answered all my questions, even after I bought the guitar. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone interested, in purchasing a guitar. My son loves it !!!"
-- C.R., Mississauga. (Purchased LS-3 Cherry Sunburst)
"Hey Rob, Very happy with the guitar. Split support structure inside is compatible with higher end guitars. Has a nice bright sound as you would expect with a spruce top. Recommend as a great starter guitar or second guitar. Quality for the price can't be beat. Good value.
Cheers.
"
-- Chris, Oakville. (Purchased Blue DG-2-BLS acoustic)
" .... The quality and sound of the guitar is simply amazing. The guitar is an excellent value for the money I paid. Playing in several gigging bands requires the equipment to be of a professional quality, good tone and resistant to going out of tune. This guitar is all of that and looks good too. .... "
-- Jeff K., Richmond Hill. (Purchased White LC-3)
"Beautiful workmanship and finish with a wonderfully rich sound…can't wait to buy another one – when my wife ain’t watching!"
-- Bruce, Kendal, Ontario. (Purchased Black LC-3)

-- Dennis Grenier, Montreal. (Purchased JD-TL)
"Just got the Jazz bass today..Wow..Super price...I was not expecting the finish and quality to be so great. It compares to many Fender Mexicans, which I own,and not far off the older Fenders that were made in Japan. Also while not active..the pickups are loud and dont hum at full volume..anyways I love it thanxx AAA !!"
-- Denis F., Bath, Ontario. (Purchased JD-JB Bass)
"Thanks for everything, guitar was a big hit. I will be doing more business soon." -- David D., Halifax. (Purchased JD-TL)

"I love my new LS3! The sound is amazing and the finish on the guitar is so beautiful. You certainly lived up to your commitment of a '100% wow factor'. The quality of the instrument is incredible for the price. I was out to buy a new strap for my LS3 at my local guitar shop and the price for a similar guitar was $200-$300 higher! I'm sure a few of my friends will be visiting your site in the future. Looking forward to my next purchase, keep up the good work! " -- Rob R., London. (Purchased Sunburst LS-3)
"Dear Rob & Harrison,
Thank you very much for taking care of my Tele today. I really appreciated the extra time and care you put into taking care of the customer, and for that you will have my repeated business. I will also be happy to spread the word to my friends and family about Fret City as well." -- Steve C., Ajax. (Purchased JD-TL)
"A father-son run business, with the customer service you can't expect at larger chain stores and low prices that you do. I was picked up, and dropped off from their studio to try out the guitars. Thats what I mean when I say customer service. On the other side of the coin, the guitars are tough to beat for the price comparing it beside a studio Les Paul, and the beauty you can clearly see in the pictures.
" -- Clarence F., Etobicoke. (Purchased White LC-3)
"I just wanted to give you some feed back on guitar purchase. The fit and finish on theJ&D GG1S was perfect and the sound is great.I ordered the guitar on sunday afternoon and the guitar was delivered to my house that evening.
